New Tutorial

Hey i changed my layout, the other one was getting boring, so what do you think?? :)...and now back to business.

NEW GIMP TUTORIAL, i´m using color layers, gradients and Hue-sat/Brightness-cont., simple as that, so i´d say it´s translatable :)

Going from Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting to Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

*Before starting, i´m working with a black and white picture, but this tut also works for color pics. Now if you like to use a B/W pic remember you can always desaturate your color pic (layers-->colors-->desaturate)

Step 1: Open your picture, crop, resize and sharpen if you need to. Mine is 99x99 because i´m going to add a border, later)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 2: Now open a new layer and fill it with #0f1149 Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting and set to exclusion 100% (Gimp:Two layers: first one in substract; top one in screen.) I know i usually work with lighten only+diference to creat the exclusion effect in Gimp, but i wanted to try this way.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 3: Duplicate the base, drag it to the top and set to soft light.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 4: New layer, fill it with #e4f3f3 Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting and set it to burn 100%.

Step 5: They look out of color so...new layer, fill it with #f83d34 Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting and set it to soft light 65%.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 6: Now they look so red and dark so let´s go with the greadients:

*(2b8a4d+ffffff) Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting set it to soft light.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

*(85d6ea+ffffff) Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting set it to burn.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

*(ffffff+964545) Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting set it to overlay.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 7: If you think it´s too dark, duplicate the base, set it to screen 50% and drag it bellow the red layer.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 8: Now copy visible, create a new layer and paste. in that layer go to layers-->colors-->Hue-saturation, and set to: 0; -4:+30.

Step 9: In the same layer go to layers-->colors-->brightness-contrast, and set to: 23; -22.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 10: Now merge layers. Then go to Script-fu-->decoration-->add border. The border is 1px black.

Step 11: I wanted the border to look soft so...Filters-->Blur-->Gaussian blur (mine:3.0)

Step 12: Finally, merge layers and you´re done...or you can add some stuff like i did. I used this brushPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting , and also added some text above the brush; change the opacies a little.Merge all layers. And it´s really done!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Hope you like it.
The person who made the brush is credited in my resource page, thank you very much.
Comment please, you know i love comments :D

New tutorial

A new Gimp tutorial (about time isn´t it), well this time i´m not using a Beatles picture (yeah believe it or not!) i´m using a picture of one of my fav movies'A beautiful mind'. So here we go :)

From Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting To Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 1: Crop, resize and sharpen(if needed), now the base is ready!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 2: Duplicate the base twice and set the first one to screen 40%, the top one to soft light 70%.(Remember the opacy can change, that´s up to you)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 3: create 5 new layers, and fill them as following (from nearest to the base to the top):

*ffc1d1 Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting set it to soft light 100% Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

*001f49 Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting set it to screen 100% Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

*fdddbe Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting set it to multiply 100% Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

*8edee3 Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting set to burn 66% Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

*f9eea7 Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting set to darken only 80% (this is the one in the top). Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 4: merge all layers. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
You can leave it here. If you want, add some text or brush. OR you can continue with the next step.

Step 5: Now go to Filters-->distortions-->rolling page. There, a window will pop up, leave everything as it is except for vertical, change it to horizontal. Then click OK. Save it as .gif (For PS users, you can go to This link for the rolling page thing.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 6: apart from what we got in step 5, open a new layer, whatever color you want(i used a color from the icon we already had). Now create a new layer and paste what you had after step 5.Merge layers.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 7: Finally, i added text and this brush Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting (the person who made it is credited in my Resource page)

And that´s it! Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I hope you like it (yeah i know i reapeat that a lot, but i really hope so!)
Comment please, i love comments :)

New tutorial

This is a Gimp tutorial, translatable (i guess).

going from: Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting to Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 1: Open your picture, crop, resize and sharpen if needed, so now we have the base.

Ste 2: Duplicate your base three times and set them to screen (it depends on your base).

Step 3: new layer, fill it with f591b2 and set it to burn 100%

Step 4: new layer fill it with 050957 and set it to exclusion 30% (Gimp: lighten only and diference, both 30%)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 5: duplicate the base, drag it to the top and set it to overly 50%.

Step 6: merge layer. layers -->colors--> Hue-saturation, set saturation 30.

Step 7: new layer fill again with 050957 and set to exlusion 20%.

Step 7: now open a new white layer, and use this brush Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting, place it where you want. Now with the select by color tool select the black part and then invert the selection. Now to make it easier make the layer invisible, see that the base is also selected. So now take a round brush and start painting with blak all over the base(the base might be selected). Finally make visible again the layer with the brush and set it to screen.

*This is the new base.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 8: Ok now, open a texture that you like and paste the new base in it, i used this Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting. with the select by color tool, select the white part and cleen(edit-->clean).you can add some text or brush, or whatever you want.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

*Now we´re gonna use this Rain Clip made by ch_photoshopped.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Step 9: open the rain clip, as it´s animated it´s gonna open in 5 layers. change the mode of the rain clip from Indexed to RGB.

Step 10: now take the new base and paste it in between the rain layers (each rain layer have to be on top of the base layer).

Step 11: now set each rain layer to screen and merge down each of them (layers-->merge down). On the layers window change the time of the layers, mine: (100ms)

Step 12 : Files-->open as a layer.(open the new base, the one we got after step 7)

Step 13 : Erase the part where you want the rain to show.Duplicate it 5 times and place each of them on top on the rain bases you already had.now again layers-->merge down.

Step 14: FINALLY Save it as .gif
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

That´s all. i wanted to add text, but i forgot :P
I don´t remember who made the texture and the brush but they´re so credited in my resource page!
oh! it was longer than my usual tuts, but i guess it´s worth it.
comments please :)

Tutorial (mov icon)

Ok new GIMP tutorial :)

we´re going to make this:Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

By the way, i made the icon with the help of This tutorial made by colourfulgirl. I just thought in doing a tut for tjis in Gimp.
anyway, here we go:

Step 1: First of all you need to get some caps. I made the caps i used with VLC media player.

Step 2: Now,we will be using this: Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting brush made by 77words
so start croping and resizing all your caps to the size of the brush. (if you´re gonna have a background layer with text like me, crop and resize it too.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting......Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting.

Step 3: now that you have all the caps and backg. to the right size, start pasting the into the brush (or you can paste them in a new layer and then use the brush, it´s up to you).

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting......Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting(if you´re gonna use text, do it now).

Step 4: Save all those layers (i save mine as .png).

Spep 5: Now open on by one as a new layer, starting ofcourse with the background layer.

Step 6: Now, we´ll write how fast the picture will change. In the layers window (ctrl+L), right click on one of the layers-->edit layer a.---> there after the name of the layer write the speed you want the layer to have, all of mine are (100ms), don´t forget to write it like this: (xxxx).

Ste 7: Now, if you want to see how it´s gonna be when you´re done: filters--> animation-->play. If it´s to fast i guess you can just change the speed of the layers, but what i did was to duplicate the layers.
I duplicate the background 4 times. the rest of them, well i duplicate each of them 2 or 3 times, it´s up to you.

Step 8: Finally when you´ve got something you like, save it as .gif and that´s all.

*Probably it won´t be able to use it as a userpic here in LJ, so what i did was:
first: filters-->animation-->optimize for gif.
And: filters-->animation-->optimize(diference).
This to steps will reduce the number of frames you had, but don´t worry the icon won´t change.
And that´s it, now you can use it for LJ.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Hope you´ll like the tut, and find it understandable. Any question you have just ask :)
